What I think about ICT in supporting the roles of the educator:
As an educator in the 21st century we have a wealth of resources available that can be used in the teaching and learning process. ICT is second nature to our students, which makes it an excellent medium in the classroom.
However, when deciding to use ICT as a support mechanism for the roles of the educator, its use must be well thought out. It must be used simply for the sake of being used. It must be used in an effective way. Simply ‘replacing’ the traditional way of doing things with ICT makes it ineffective.
ICT can definitely support the roles of the educator. If ICT is used to create an environment in the classroom, instead of just being a tool it will be truly effective. If ICT is viewed as a tool, then it will only be used when it is ‘fit’ for use. However, an environment is something that is always there. It is part of the daily activites and becomes ‘one’ with everything.
Therefore, an ICT enhanced classroom is definitely a step in the right direction and it will become an excellent support mechanism for the Seven Roles the Educator assumes.
